Introduction

The paper
underlines requirement and supply chain management of a tailgate party for
forty people prior to the next home game for my university football team. The
paper assesses the supply chain requirements of the party, various inputs and
outputs and how the procurements of the various products will be carried out.

Analysis

Question 1: What are the inputs to and outputs of a supply chain?

The
input of the supply chain includes the products that have to be procured for
the event. It includes the procurement of materials of burgers with all the
fittings, brats as well as ribs. Procuring of the ingredients forms the primary
source of input of the supply chain. The output is to assemble the ingredients
to pass on the finished product to the desired individual. In this situation,
the final product includes burgers and snacks which would be eaten by persons
attending the tailgate party.

Question 2: Why do you suggest this supply chain structure in the given
situation? What are its benefits
?

This
supply chain would certain work in this situation as it is perfectly aligning
the input with the output of resources. We have the head count of forty people
for the party for which demand needs to be forecasted (Croom, 2000). Based on the forecasted demand we will procure the
raw material i.e. the ingredients and then assemble the final product i.e. the
burger and snacks. This is a highly beneficial method as once we have
forecasted the demand of burgers and snacks for forty people the information
visibility among the supply chain would be highly smooth.

Question 3: How will you ensure that your supply chain provides a
smooth flow of resources
?

We would centralize
its informational visibility in supply chain and through this should try to
reduce uncertainty and cope with lead times. Strategic Partnerships should be
induced with the distributors to gain quick response from the distributors, for
allowing advanced as well as continuous replenishment and for effectively
implementing Vendor Managed Inventory. I will have to make sure that I have
forecasted the demand for various resources rightfully and all the ingredients
and equipments required for the part are transported much before the event. Also,
I will have to make sure that in case the demand for the ingredients arises I
have the back-up resources to cater to the demand. This could be done by
creating a buffer which could be used if demand increases or returned to the
supplier deducting nominal charge if the same is not used. This will be highly
effective to counter the variability of demand.

Question 4: What strategic issues or challenges do you anticipate? What
measures do you recommend to overcome these challenges
?

The primary
strategic challenge that I anticipate in the current situation is High Lead
time for orders from the distributors end. Also, lack of proper forecasting
technique could also be a major challenge in the process (Efraim, 1997). Higher forecast might result in wastage
however; lower forecast is highly unacceptable in such an event. We could cope
up with this increase in variability of demand either by storing buffer of
finish goods at its stores or requesting its distributors for carrying
additional inventory.

Question
5: How will you address the supply chain using the SCOR model
?

The
SCOR model is based on 5 distinctive management processes which include plan,
source, and make, deliver and return (Wood, 2011). In our supply chain for the
tailgate party, all the elements of the SCOR model will be addressed. Firstly,
I will have to plan for various ingredients required, forecast demand for each
of the snacks, shortlist the distributers that I would be visiting to finalize
my purchase. Second, I will have to tie-up with suppliers and distributers from
which I would be buying all the material. This includes the procurement stage in
the supply chain. Thirdly we will have to get those ingredients from wherein we
would assemble our finished products i.e. the snacks. Lastly, any excess
material would be returned to the respected supplier.

Question 6: Complete bill of materials including the equipments
required
.

In
the party we would be serving burgers, grilled snacks, beer and cold drinks. We
would require grillers for preparing the grilled snacks which would be 5 in
quantity. The number of burgers to be bought for the party is 80 keeping in
mind 2 per head. The grilled chicken would comprise of 120 pieces of chicken.
We would approximate around 60 liters of cold drinks for the party and would
also bring in 80 beers. The sausages would include tomato sauce, barbeque sauce
and mayonnaise sauce each would have 8 bottles of 250 ml each.

Conclusion

The paper
analyzed the supply chain management of the tailgate party for forty people
prior to the next home game for my university football team. The primary
strategic challenge that I anticipate in the current situation is High Lead
time for orders from the distributors end. Based on the analysis, we would centralize
its informational visibility in supply chain and through this should try to
reduce uncertainty and cope with lead times (Cohen, 2004). Strategic Partnerships should be induced with the
distributors to gain quick response from the distributors, for allowing
advanced as well as continuous replenishment and for effectively implementing
Vendor Managed Inventory.
